Vice President CRE Underwriting

The Vice President – Underwriting (VPU) will be a key part of the DSC Capital team, contributing directly to the success of the company in a wide variety of tasks. The primary job function will be completing an accurate and well-researched underwriting package for all commercial real estate financing prospects sourced by DSC Capital.  Typical items included in the underwriting package will be a pro-forma income / expense model, an analysis of historical operations, a sources / uses breakdown, formatted rent rolls as well as comprehensive underwriting notes.  Underwriting may also consist of a discounted cash flow analysis, NNN reconciliation, development of an ARGUS model, construction budget reconciliation, unit mix grids, and/or other reports depending on the property type and what is needed to demonstrate to lenders the strength and viability of the project.  The VPU must be able to build rapport with property managers, investment sales brokers, and/or our client’s accounting staff to source our specific underwriting requests.

Working directly with four senior team members, this position provides the candidate the opportunity to grow within the company and increase their knowledge and experience within the commercial real estate finance industry.  Candidates will also have the responsibility of completing research projects, writing content for lender offering memorandums, and executing commercial real estate loan closings.

This is a full time position at DSC Capital’s home office located in Downtown Seattle. Travel for work is light, with occasional property inspections, site visits and market tours.  Upon demonstrating a track record of professionalism and underwriting proficiency, the VPU may travel more often to site visits, lender meetings and client meetings.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors’ degree and 5+ years experience underwriting commercial real estate and creating financial models.  In addition, the candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Overall, the ability to work well with our team and have a positive, proactive attitude is key for success in this position.

Preferred skills include:

  • 5+ years experience underwriting commercial real estate properties and creating financial models.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with ARGUS is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with research-related data sources including city / county websites and other governmental websites, broker market reports, economic forecasts, news sources, etc.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and work with little supervision under tight timeframes.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented fast paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Familiarity with InDesign is a plus.

Compensation

Candidate will be offered a competitive compensation package including salary, benefits and an annual bonus based on performance. Compensation is dependent in part on experience. DSC Capital offers medical insurance coverage and a retirement savings plan with company matching.  DSC also offers off site training for certain computer skills that may be required for the position.
